At long last, Practical Magic 2 is in cinemas – nearly three decades after the original. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back as Sally and Gillian Owens, and this time they have company from the likes of Maisie Williams and Joey King.

In the summer of 2025, the film was shot right here in the UK – so if you find yourself watching it and wondering where exactly it was made, we’ve got you covered.

Firstly, much of it was shot at the iconic Leavesden Studios near Watford, Hertfordshire – including, most notably, all the scenes set in and around the iconic house.

In fact, the original home from the 1998 original was rebuilt from scratch, courtesy of production designer Tom Burton.

Production notes reveal that he was instructed not to change the exterior or the kitchen, but director Susanne Bier gave him the green light to update the general décor in such a way that would reflect the passing of the years.

Construction began in June 2025 and took twelve weeks, with another three weeks needed to dress the set.

“What we have done here, which they didn’t do in the original movie, was build the interior and the exterior as a composite set, so we could actually walk in from the garden and into the house, and through the house and out the other side,” Burton said.

“It gives you the freedom to shoot 360, which is also one of the things that Susanne really likes. I don’t think I’ve ever built a set for her that’s not 360, because she wants the actors to be able to do what they want to do, and the viewer to look wherever you can look. So, the set exterior is 360 and all the interiors are 360 as well.”

Outside of Leavesden, there were several other locations that Bullock, Kidman and co ventured out to.

For example, the St Mary and All Saints Church near Romford was used for a New England cemetery, while the 18th Century manor house Langleybury Mansion – which is also near Watford – was used for Harvard rooms.

Around the M25 and close to High Wycombe, the Royal Standard of England – which claims to be England’s oldest pub, aged over 900 years old – was used for the Thonfield Inn. The Black Park Country Park, just north of Slough, was used for the forest around it.

Scenes at Tom’s cottage were filmed on the Wormsley Estate in Buckinghamshire, while the on-screen village of Thornfield is actually Hambleden, also in Buckinghamshire.

In London, the Victorian flats of the Cromwell Buildings were used for Ian Wright’s apartment; the Bishopsgate Institute near Liverpool Street was used for the library; the Royal Chelsea Hospital served as a flower market and a Harvard exterior; and the private Hamptons Estate in South London was used for the New England town in which the Owens family reside.

A little further afield, the Old Wardour Castle – which is near Salisbury and dates back to the 14th century – was used for the ruins of an old manor.

“It was a great one for the location department,” supervising locations manager Giles Edleston said. “It was a very pleasant way to spend the summer. And it was nice in that I think we used a lot of locations that I haven’t used before, which is quite rare, given how long I’ve been doing this.”

Finally, scenes in the train carriage Kidman and Bullock are seen in were shot at Leavesden – but the carriage itself was borrowed from the Epping Ongar Railway in Essex. Joey King also filmed a scene at the railway’s North Weald station, according to BBC News.

“We were the perfect fit for them in terms of what they wanted to film,” station manager Robert Bentley said. “We had the countryside and we had the coach that they wanted.”

Bentley was even asked to step on-camera for one particular moment, and he has a line of dialogue as a train guard.
