\n\tThe beloved comedy-drama The Family Stone<\/a> will receive a sequel 20 years later, with many of its original stars \u2014 Rachel McAdams<\/a>, Claire Danes<\/a>, Sarah Jessica Parker<\/a>, and more \u2014 set to return for The Families Stone.<\/p>\n

\n\tSearchlight Pictures officially announced the sequel to the 2005 film \u2014 which has become a holiday classic over the past two decades \u2014 on Saturday, while also confirming that Family Stone co-stars Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Luke Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser, and Paul Schneider would reprise their roles, Variety reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a comedy with a dash of tragedy \u2014 the kind of thing that usually makes me puke,\u201d Peter Travers wrote in his Rolling Stone review of the film in 2005. \u201cBut I fell for this one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Family Stone also starred Diane Keaton, whose matriarch character Sybil dies at the end of the original. According to the sequel\u2019s synopsis, \u201cTwenty years after their mother\u2019s passing, the Stone family reunites for Christmas only to face the season\u2019s biggest surprise: their father has unexpectedly invited the woman he\u2019s fallen in love with to meet the family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original, will return to those roles for The Families Stone. Soon after the death of Keaton in October 2025<\/a>, Bezucha revealed that he was working on a sequel to the movie. \u201cI\u2019ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,\u201d Bezucha said. \u201cMentally, I\u2019ve been spending time in that house where I\u2019ve been missing her for a while already.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLuke Wilson confirmed earlier this year that a sequel was in the works, telling Entertainment Weekly of the script, \u201cTom Bezucha is a great writer and a great director, and I read the script, and it\u2019s really funny, and it\u2019s so nice that everybody wants to work together again.
