{"id":769079,"date":"2026-09-13T06:24:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T06:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/769079\/"},"modified":"2026-09-13T06:24:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-13T06:24:15","slug":"t20-cricket-belfast-wolves-building-hype-with-no-home-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/769079\/","title":{"rendered":"T20 cricket: Belfast Wolves building hype with no home games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Harry Dyer, 20, and Adam Leckey, 19, are young cricketers on the NCU talent development programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Harry said there was a buzz around the Wolves but agrees that home games would be key in building momentum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Hopefully in future, if Belfast were to have home games with all the facilities that they are planning to get brought in, I think younger kids would definitely follow them and hopefully call the Belfast Wolves their team,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added that fans may be attracted to the T20 format, which is fast-paced, dynamic and a shorter form of cricket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The ETPL is an event as well, it&#8217;s not just a cricket match. I think that could be a drawing factor for people to come and watch, for example like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cricket\/the-hundred\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The  Hundred<\/a> and stuff like that, with live DJs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Adam watched some Wolves matches in the Netherlands. He said he was hopeful that there would be an opportunity next year to support the team and players in Belfast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said cricket was not as big as football and rugby but an established Wolves franchise could boost the sport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Compared to the amount of people that play rugby, play hockey, play football, barely anybody plays cricket and something like this could maybe interest people.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Harry Dyer, 20, and Adam Leckey, 19, are young cricketers on the NCU talent development programme.
