{"id":770,"date":"2025-07-14T17:04:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T17:04:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/770\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T17:04:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T17:04:03","slug":"bbc-tells-gregg-wallace-a-return-to-masterchef-is-untenable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/770\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Tells Gregg Wallace a Return to &#8216;MasterChef&#8217; Is &#8220;Untenable&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bbc_1\" data-tag=\"bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> has cut ties with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/masterchef\/\" id=\"auto-tag_masterchef_1\" data-tag=\"masterchef\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MasterChef<\/a> star Gregg Wallace after an external report upheld 45 allegations against the presenter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLast week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/masterchef-host-gregg-wallace-fired-sacked-response-claims-1236310082\/?_thumbnail_id=1236310093\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 50 people<\/a> approached the British broadcaster with fresh claims about the 60-year-old, including allegations that he groped a colleague and pulled his trousers down in front of another. Wallace had stepped back from the cooking series in November after ex-colleagues had come forward with allegations of inappropriate behavior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFollowing the BBC piece in which various women made public their experiences with Wallace, an inquiry conducted by an independent law firm was ordered by MasterChef\u2018s production company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/banijay\/\" id=\"auto-tag_banijay_1\" data-tag=\"banijay\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Banijay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe results of the report are damning for Wallace, who denied any wrongdoing. In total, it says 83 allegations were made against the MasterChef presenter, with the majority of claims relating to inappropriate sexual language and humor, but also culturally insensitive and racist comments. More than half (45) were upheld after an investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWallace is described as \u201cenergetic, humorous and generally able to put contestants at ease, which contributed to the show\u2019s success,\u201d but interactions and comments made on set \u201csometimes resulted in offense and\/or left people feeling uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBefore the findings of the report were released, the star had insisted it cleared him of \u201cthe most serious and sensational allegations.\u201d He came under further fire last week for seemingly suggesting his behavior was the result of his autism. The report released Monday maintains that while its findings should be viewed in \u201cthe context of his neurodiversity\u201d and that Wallace accepts his diagnosis may help to explain some of his actions, \u201che does not wish to hide behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWallace\u2019s lengthy statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday also said: \u201cNothing was done to investigate my disability or protect me from what I now realise was a dangerous environment for over 20 years\u2026. I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience. I was tried by media and hung out to dry well before the facts were established.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSome of the 50-plus people who spoke to BBC News also contributed to the Banijay inquiry, describing incidents that happened across a range of shows Wallace featured on, but also in environments like night clubs and award ceremonies. A rep for Wallace did not immediately respond for comment from THR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe revelations covered a 19-year period. A BBC representative told THR on Monday that the broadcaster welcomed the publication of the findings and agreed, with Banijay U.K., that Wallace\u2019s return to MasterChef ws \u201cuntenable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe BBC has informed Mr Wallace we have no plans to work with him in future,\u201d it said. \u201c[His] behaviour falls\u00a0below the values of the BBC and the expectations we have for anyone who works with or for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe broadcaster admits that opportunities were \u201cmissed\u201d to address his misconduct, both by the production companies running MasterChef and the BBC. \u201cWe accept\u00a0more could and should have been done\u00a0sooner. We apologise to everyone who has been impacted by Mr Wallace\u2019s behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn claims made about two other individuals \u2014\u00a0and not Wallace \u2014\u00a0also included in the report, the BBC said: \u201c[We] take these findings very seriously and we have asked Banijay U.K. to take action to address these issues, which is underway.
