Northamptonshire have confirmed that all-rounder Rob Keogh will retire from professional cricket at the end of the season because of a back injury.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old came through the club’s academy, making his first-team debut in August 2010, and has made 315 appearances across all formats.<\/p>\n

During his 16 seasons, he helped them win the T20 Blast in 2016, and secure promotions to Division One of the County Championship in 2013 and 2019.<\/p>\n

A club statement said:, external<\/a> “Having sought advice and support from medical specialists for a lower back issue, Rob has made the decision to retire.”<\/p>\n

Keogh says “It’s never easy to make those decisions but ultimately in a way it got taken out of my hands.<\/p>\n

“I came here as a 12-year-old [on the Emerging Players Programme], walked through the gates and fell in the love with the place. <\/p>\n

“I was a boy from a state school in Dunstable, getting the chance to live his dream.<\/p>\n

“I was a fan the moment I walked through the gate, and I’ll be a fan the moment I walk out. It’ll always be a very special place for me.”<\/p>\n

In 2016, Keogh’s hit the winning runs to secure the Steelbacks’ second T20 Blast title.<\/p>\n

He was awarded his County cap in 2019, and received a testimonial year in 2024 which recognised his contribution and achievements for over a decade.<\/p>\n

He passed 10,000 all-format runs for Northamptonshire in 2025, and his current tally of 10,140 has been exceeded by only 30 players in the club’s history. <\/p>\n

His 21 centuries for Northamptonshire across all formats puts him level with Raman Subba Row in the all-time list.<\/p>\n

Ray Payne, Northamptonshire CEO said: “Rob Keogh epitomises the definition of a one-club cricketer.
