{"id":771250,"date":"2026-09-15T08:24:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T08:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/771250\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T08:24:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T08:24:10","slug":"lyscombe-nature-recovery-site-named-national-nature-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/771250\/","title":{"rendered":"Lyscombe nature recovery site named National Nature Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A nature reserve established to improve wildlife habitats and offset the building of new homes has been designated a National Nature Reserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) and Natural England bought 833 acres (335 hectares) of farmland and chalk downland at Lyscombe, north east of Dorchester, in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Natural England said the landscape, which is home to rare orchids and butterflies, would join the King&#8217;s Series of National Nature Reserves (NNR).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is the 16th site to receive the NNR designation since the scheme was announced in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">To mark the King&#8217;s coronation, Natural England said it would create 25 major nature reserves &#8211; five a year, over five years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Lyscombe is made up of farmland, chalk grassland, ancient woodland and heritage sites, including 50 hectares of nationally important Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) chalk downland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A nature reserve established to improve wildlife habitats and offset the building of new homes has been designated&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":771251,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[1397,90,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-771250","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-environment","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/771250","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=771250"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/771250\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/771251"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=771250"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=771250"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=771250"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
