\n The homegrown full-back has been on a remarkable rise since breaking into senior football and has played in a higher division in each of the last five seasons.\n<\/p>\n

\n Schumacher accepts there are still areas of Conway\u2019s game that can improve \u2013 and is excited by the prospect of pushing the young defender as far as he can go.\n<\/p>\n
\n But after coming up against two of the Championship\u2019s top wide men in his last two games, the Bolton boss believes there is no question that he can handle his latest step up the ladder.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe has come up against Jared Bowen on Tuesday night, who was playing for England, and he was up against Ollie Tanner there, who I think is one of the best wingers in the division, his quality is excellent.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cMax has shown it yet again. We talk about stepping up into the level, can he cope, can he handle it? And he can.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe has to concentrate all the time, not lose discipline with his shape, keep working on his one-v-one defending, because actually when he gets the ball, a lot of his stuff is good.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cIf he can start getting an end product at the end of his runs, like the one where he went on a mazy dribble late in the game, if he hits the target with that, then he goes to a complete other level.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cBut he is doing really well, and I’m pleased with him, but he’s just got to keep trying to get better.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Conway has played 48 league games for Wanderers and, excluding Aaron Morley who spent only a short time in the youth set-up before returning as a senior player, is set to become the first academy graduate to reach that milestone since Zach Clough did so in a 2-0 win against Millwall in November 2016.\n<\/p>\n
\n Schumacher admits the defender\u2019s rate of progress has been impressive but believes the current coaching set-up can help Conway become a better player.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI hope so, that’s what I get paid for,\u201d he smiled.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cTrying to help him improve. But, yeah, I think he played in League Two two years ago, he played in League One for us last year, and we thought that he did really well.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe was getting better, he had ups and downs in the season, but he came through at the end really strongly, and then he stepped into the Championship, and he’s doing really well. And that’s not by accident, we work with him daily on the training pitch. He’s getting more aggressive with his one-v-one defending, and that is how he won the ball for the goal (against Cardiff).\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe’s not waiting and letting the lad get up ahead of steam, he’s on the front foot, he anticipated it, then he was strong enough to win the duel in the last minute, and it gets us on a counter-attack, and it wins the game.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI don\u2019t know how far he can go but there shouldn’t be a limit, how old is he? Twenty three now?\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThere shouldn’t be a limit, because if you look at him, he’s got all the attributes of a player at the top, top level, because he’s left-footed, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s not bad in the air, he’s getting better at one-v-one defending, he’s really good at running with the ball.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThey are the core attributes that big top clubs are looking for. Now, whether he can be a top professional every day, come into work every day, try and get stronger, try and get better, because that’s what the top players do, they improve every day, they don’t just go, OK: \u2018I’m now a Championship player, I’m going to stop.\u2019\n<\/p>\n
