Trump has lashed at critics of artificial intelligence<\/a> several times in recent days, rubbishing concerns about its potential for harm and arguing that any slowdown in its development would hand China a competitive edge<\/a>.<\/p>\n He then launched into a series of ranting posts on Truth Social Monday \u2013 in which he alleged a \u201cSICK conspiracy\u201d was trying to rein in the sector, overlooking comments by industry leaders Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei<\/a> \u2013 which sparked calls for his removal from office under the 25th Amendment<\/a>. <\/p>\n Responding on MS NOW\u2019s The Last Word with Lawrence O\u2019Donnell<\/a> Monday evening, the senator \u2013 who is seen as one of his party\u2019s rising stars and has been tipped for a 2028 presidential run<\/a> \u2013 was asked how he believed an \u201cactive, alert\u201d president should respond to the existential challenges posed by AI. <\/p>\n \u201cThis is a moment that calls for wise and capable leadership,\u201d Ossoff responded<\/a>, agreeing with O\u2019Donnell\u2019s earlier comparison between AI and the proliferation of nuclear weapons<\/a> in the mid-20th century.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not by skill, but rather by luck, that for the last 80 years we\u2019ve avoided a nuclear exchange between two powers and our wisdom has to catch up with our technical capacity,\u201d the senator said.<\/p>\n He called for Big Tech bosses to testify \u201cimmediately\u201d before Congress, allow inspectors to visit their laboratories and for the U.S. to fortify itself against bioterrorism, which he called \u201cone of the most significant potential threats associated with this technology.\u201d<\/p>\n Pivoting to the president, he said: \u201cDonald Trump basically says we\u2019re gonna sit on our hands and hope for the best. And, remember, he\u2019s conflicted.<\/p>\n \u201c1789 Capital \u2013 the venture firm that Don Jr<\/a> is a partner in \u2013 they\u2019ve invested heavily in AI labs, they\u2019ve invested heavily in data centres, so the First Family has a financial stake in this industry and, as a result, the president of the United States is compromised.\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has reached out to the Trump Organization for comment.<\/p>\n Later in the interview, Ossoff called<\/a> the president \u201ca dangerously corrupt and incompetent man\u201d and reminded voters to do their \u201cpatriotic duty\u201d in November\u2019s midterms and help Democrats win their races \u201cdecisively.\u201d <\/p>\n He was also asked about Trump\u2019s eldest son, the aforementioned Don Jr, recently marrying Florida socialite Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas in a ceremony partially paid for by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev<\/a>, who has ties to President Vladimir Putin. <\/p>\n \u201cWe are witnessing people drunk with power, who are utterly reckless, utterly corrupt, and obviously believe that they live with impunity,\u201d Ossoff said<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey believe they\u2019re untouchable. They believe they\u2019re invincible.
