Rabat \u2013 Moroccan wheelchair tennis player Adil Boutahli won<\/a> the men\u2019s singles consolation final on Tuesday at the international \u201cWC100 Birmingham Wheelchair Tennis Classic\u201d in Toronto, Canada, adding another achievement to a sporting journey built around resilience and perseverance.<\/p>\n

Boutahli competed throughout the week-long tournament and progressed through the different stages of the competition before securing victory in the consolation draw.<\/p>\n

The result allowed the Moroccan player to finish his participation on a positive note while continuing his development on the international wheelchair tennis circuit.<\/p>\n

Boutahli\u2019s sporting journey began long before he took up wheelchair tennis. According to<\/a> his personal account, he played several sports in Morocco, including soccer, tennis, handball, and athletics.<\/p>\n

His path changed following a life-changing shooting incident that left him facing a long rehabilitation process. During his recovery, doctors and therapists encouraged him to explore adaptive sports.<\/p>\n

Initially uncertain about returning to sport, Boutahli eventually attended a wheelchair tennis program in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The experience introduced him to a sport that would later become a major part of his life.<\/p>\n

He has recalled being struck by seeing wheelchair athletes moving around the court, competing and enjoying the sport. He subsequently began learning how to maneuver a sports wheelchair while playing tennis, despite the physical challenges he faced during his recovery.<\/p>\n

With regular training, Boutahli gradually improved his wheelchair skills, strength and confidence. He has described tennis as an important part of his rehabilitation and a way of rebuilding his sporting ambitions.<\/p>\n

The ITF currently lists<\/a> Boutahli as a 41-year-old Moroccan wheelchair tennis player. He plays left-handed, prefers hard courts and began playing wheelchair tennis at the age of 35.<\/p>\n

His own website describes him as a professional wheelchair tennis athlete based in the United States and highlights his progression from rehabilitation to competing on the international stage.<\/p>\n

Building an international career<\/p>\n

Boutahli has gradually established himself in international wheelchair tennis, competing in tournaments outside the United States and continuing to represent Morocco on the circuit.<\/p>\n
