As such, work after rugby all revolves around being there for his son. Last year, Davies took on a role as director of elite performance at Christ College Brecon.<\/p>\n
“With that, you work with the scholars, giving opportunities to pupils who have athletic prowess or potential to give it a real go and see where that can take them,” he says. “Being involved in that is hugely rewarding.<\/p>\n
“The school has been really ahead of the game in terms of creating this opportunity. It’s been a great experience.<\/p>\n
“I was approached by the school and it was always something that I was intrigued by, working in schools across the rugby side.<\/p>\n
“This opportunity also gave me a bit of flexibility as well since returning. That allows me to work with some great people in Brecon, but also be at home and be a dad, being present.<\/p>\n
“I know how lucky I am to have that time, as a lot of new dads don’t get that. I’m loving that and, with Brecon, I hope it can grow and grow.”<\/p>\n

Davies recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa<\/p>\n
Anyone familiar with Davies’ Instagram would also notice that the 38-year-old is occasionally posting pictures from slightly more sunnier locales.<\/p>\n
“Well, you’re saying I’m on holiday all the time?” He laughs. “I get that a lot, to be honest.<\/p>\n
“We tried to maximize the first two years of my son’s life because we didn’t want to pay for a seat on the plane, but now that he’s two, we’re still paying for a seat! My wife Louise, she works in travel, and she says that part of her job means she needs to get away and look at different hotels.<\/p>\n
“So I’ll quite happily be the donkey that carries the bags, you know? One thing we love to do is travel.<\/p>\n
“How my life is set up, it creates that opportunity to do it. So I feel very lucky.<\/p>\n
“And I do get a bit of jip off the boys saying I’m constantly on holiday, but I couldn’t care less, really. Everyone has their passions and hobbies.<\/p>\n
“I love food, love cooking, and we love travelling as a family. That’s our priorities. When we get an opportunity, we try and create experiences and memories as a family.<\/p>\n
“Taking our son around the world, he’s been a lucky boy, but it’s the best thing ever.”<\/p>\n
As well as working at Christ College, Davies has invested in The Hub, a community-focused gym in Chepstow.<\/p>\n
“That’s been really good for me because I’ve learned how you run a business,” he says, “and I feel that I’m actually adding value then on the side of a gym because I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the years in gyms!<\/p>\n
“It’s been brilliant to learn that and I’m enjoying that phase of my career as well. We hope to be a big part of the community in Chepstow.<\/p>\n
“It’s going well at the moment and hopefully we can grow.”<\/p>\n
There’s also the TV work, with Davies a familiar face on our screens. As well as appearing on BBC<\/a>, he works as a pundit for Premier Sports.<\/p>\n Premier Sports\u2019 Jonathan Davies(Image: \u00a9INPHO\/Ryan Byrne )<\/p>\n \u201cAnother really important part of my career is working in punditry, broadcasting and in the media which I am really enjoying,” he adds.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m loving my work with Premier Sports covering the URC and European Rugby live and working alongside the other former players across these competitions. It’s a great team and we have a lot of fun as well.<\/p>\n “I hope that I\u2019m growing into it and being able to break down games and give information and insight to supporters at home watching. Rugby has given me everything in my life and it still brings me a huge amount of enjoyment to be close to the game off the pitch.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope punditry will play a big part in my career going forward \u2013 I have enjoyed tasting it and throwing myself more into it and with the blend of other things I am doing it gives me a great balance.\u201d<\/p>\n So, what’s next in the portfolio?<\/p>\n “Probably a bit more time to play padel!
