Matt Fitzpatrick has cast doubt on his participation in the DP World Tour\u2019s season-ending playoffs because he\u2019s \u201cuncomfortable\u201d with the fraught ongoing situation in the Middle East. <\/p>\n
Strikes in the region have created uncertainty about a number of sporting events, including the DP World Tour\u2019s showpiece tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November. <\/p>\n
The UK\u2019s Foreign Office removed its recommendation against \u201call but essential travel\u201d to the United Arab Emirates in June, but has warned that \u201cthe situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable\u201d.<\/p>\n
Fitzpatrick says he was told in April that a decision on the playoffs would be made by June, and while preparations for the tournaments have continued as usual, the Englishman has safety reservations. He also says the lack of clarity on the situation has been \u201cfrustrating\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing completely honest as things stand right now, I would say I\u2019m not that comfortable,\u201d the 2022 US Open champion told reporters at Wentworth, where he is playing in this week\u2019s BMW PGA Championship<\/a>. \u201cA few things have obviously changed for me. I\u2019ve had a child in August, and that obviously kind of changes things, I guess, a bit more.<\/p>\n \u201cI know the Tour has been on this for a long time. It\u2019s obviously frustrating that the decision hasn\u2019t been made so you can plan what\u2019s going on. But I understand there\u2019s obviously a lot of moving parts to that, and it\u2019s obviously difficult to make these decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n Fitzpatrick added: \u201cIf the Tour do go, I\u2019m sure they have had the best advice possible on what that looks like. As things stand right now, I wouldn\u2019t necessarily be too keen on going. I know there\u2019s been discussions on what Formula One is doing. I don\u2019t know the rumors that side but I\u2019ve heard they might not be going there, so it begs the question: \u2018Would we?’\u201d<\/p>\n
