Per reports from Australia, 12 of the 14 Super League clubs are on board with the NRL investing in the competition, however, the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has insisted that London Broncos must be part of Super League.<\/p>\n

The Broncos were hoping to land a Super League berth for 2026 but they ranked 16th on the IMG gradings and were ultimately just denied a place in the top comp via the application process.<\/p>\n

After a dominant year in the Championship, where they clearly don\u2019t belong given their spending power and one-sided scorelines, the Darren Lockyer-backed club are again hoping to book a spot in Super League and NRL investment in the competition<\/a> could help secure that.<\/p>\n

Per a report from\u00a0Code Sports<\/a>, NRL supremo Peter V\u2019landys has held a meeting with the Super League club owners and 12 of the 14 are \u2018on board\u2019 with the proposed NRL investment, which is reported to be a figure of $57 million.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear who the dissenting clubs are but one thing that is clear and is reported by Code Sports is that: \u201cThe ARL Commission has one key demand \u2013 that Darren Lockyer\u2019s London Broncos are promoted and if that occures, the NRL\u2019s 50 per cent stake in the UK game will be rubber-stamped.\u201d<\/p>\n

What will Super League look like in 2027 if the NRL invest?<\/p>\n

What exactly London Broncos\u2019 promotion spells for the rest of Super League is unclear, particularly in regards to how many teams will make up the top flight.<\/p>\n

A growing feeling has been that Super League will simply extend to 15 teams, something that whilst complicated will allow for byes in what is an already demanding schedule.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, a team would have to be relegated and should London be promoted for reasons other than IMG i.e. NRL backing, then presumably the IMG gradings are invalidated and cannot be used to determine which side goes down.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the three promoted sides have all shown immense value with Toulouse and York finishing eighth and tenth, whilst Bradford are set to travel to Las Vegas to represent Super League in 2027.<\/p>\n

IMG gradings will come out in less than a month\u2019s time but whether we know the make-up of Super League before that \u2013 as a result of a possible NRL investment deal \u2013 is to be seen.<\/p>\n
