{"id":774095,"date":"2026-09-17T23:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T23:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/774095\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T23:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T23:20:16","slug":"rescue-team-on-standby-after-whales-were-spotted-in-the-thames-at-tilbury-local-news-news-thurrock-nub-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/774095\/","title":{"rendered":"Rescue team on standby after whales were spotted in the Thames at Tilbury | Local News | News | Thurrock Nub News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RIVER authorities and wildlife organisations are on the alert after a pod of whales, believed to be Pilot whales, were spotted in the Thames close to Coalhouse Fort at East Tilbury and Tilbury this afternoon (Thursday, 17 September).<\/p>\n<p>The pod may include as many as 20 adults and some calves are also reported to be with them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"w-full no-prose p-0 m-0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/category.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>They appear to have come upstream on a high tide and some reports suggest they have gone as far as Purfleet. <\/p>\n<p>There are some fears the whales may be disorientated and are at risk of stranding.
