{"id":774513,"date":"2026-09-18T08:20:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T08:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/774513\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T08:20:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T08:20:11","slug":"white-wallaby-in-suffolk-surprises-highways-worker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/774513\/","title":{"rendered":"White wallaby in Suffolk surprises highways worker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wallabies are native to Australia but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwales.ac.uk\/news\/2020\/november\/wheres-wallaby-research-reveals-how-wild-wallabies-are-thriving-in-the-uk\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">research suggests, external<\/a> they are increasingly thriving in the wild in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Helen Pearson, head of animal studies at Suffolk Rural, a college in Otley village which has its own wallabies, said they could survive &#8220;quite well&#8221; in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They all come from Australia,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They live in shrubland out there, so as much as you think Australia is quite hot, they cope quite well in our climate. They&#8217;re really hardy animals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Carter added: &#8220;I will certainly look for it again, as it&#8217;s not something you would usually see and I would definitely like to find out more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Do you have a story suggestion for Suffolk?
