\n Martham Broad is framed by reedbeds, open water and sweeping marshland, a peaceful nature reserve and a haven for wildlife, with birds insects and other creatures thriving among its varied landscapes.\n<\/p>\n
\n Just north of Martham village, the reserve’s network of paths winds around two shallow broads and through a rich patchwork of fen, reed swamp and wetland habitats.\n<\/p>\n

\n Whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or simply looking for a scenic stroll, it’s one of the county’s best spots to experience autumn wildlife up close.\n<\/p>\n
\n Visitors can expect to see a variety of species, including common cranes flying over the reserve, otters in the Broad’s quiet waterways and Chinese water deer in the surrounding fields.\n<\/p>\n
\n Bird enthusiasts might spot barn owls, marsh harriers and bitterns, as well as wintering wildfowl such as pochard, tufted duck, grebes and goldeneye, while Cetti’s warblers and bearded tits are often seen in the reedbeds.\n<\/p>\n
\n Autumn at Martham Broad offers quieter paths, changing light over the open water and the arrival of more wildfowl.\n<\/p>\n
\n The reedbeds and marshes provide good cover for birds, while early morning or late afternoon can offer the best chance of seeing deer, owls or an otter.\n<\/p>\n

\n The reserve is open from dawn until dusk every day of the year, with access via footpaths near West Somerton Staithe.\n<\/p>\n
\n The walk is not a fully circular reserve trail, so visitors should follow footpaths along its edges and use viewpoints over the Broad.\n<\/p>\n
\n Visitors are advised to wear waterproof footwear, bring binoculars and keep quiet near the reedbeds for the best wildlife-watching experience.\n<\/p>\n
\n The River Thurne is unusually clean, supporting a range of aquatic life.\n<\/p>\n
