To have a history-making album, it needs to carry a message that will resonate down the ages. The language Janet Jackson<\/a> needed to convey was dance rhythms and synthesisers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That isn\u2019t meant to sound dismissive in any way, because her seminal album Janet Jackson\u2019s Rhythm Nation 1814 from 1989 quite simply changed the game, not just for her as an artist but for the entire pop music scene as a whole. Everyone who was anyone was listening and taking notes, even the musical titans within her own family. <\/p>\n

For an album of 20 tracks in length, Rhythm Nation was an opus on Jackson\u2019s part, not just for the range of musical influences but for the campaigning beat that powered through its heart. It marked a departure from her other work in this respect<\/a>, and there were worries within her camp that its commentary on social issues would be met with far less than universal acclaim.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, if there was anyone in history who could have been more wrong in that moment, it was them. What songs on the Rhythm Nation album made history?<\/p>\n

Certainly, with the slew of singles \u2018Miss You Much\u2019, \u2018Escapade\u2019, \u2018Black Cat\u2019, \u2018Alright\u2019, \u2018Come Back to Me\u2019, the titular \u2018Rhythm Nation\u2019, and the final single, \u2018Love Will Never Do (Without You)\u2019, Jackson had a massive streak of success that she more than capitalised upon. The numbers and volume spoke for themselves. <\/p>\n

Yet what made it even more remarkable was the fact that four of those songs \u2013 \u2018Escapade\u2019, \u2018Black Cat\u2019, \u2018Love Will Never Do (Without You)\u2019, and \u2018Miss You Much\u2019 \u2013 also went to number one, with the latter spending no less than four weeks atop that crowning spot.
