The team contacted volunteers at the nearby RNLI shop, part of Hastings Lifeboat Station, who called the British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

Team member Gaynor remained with Dolly on the beach before she was taken to RSPCA centre Mallydams Wood to be cared for.

The chairman of the Hastings Lifeboat Management Group, Paul, said: “We were delighted to be able to help.

“Gaynor stayed with Dolly on the beach until she could be rescued.

“We have been told by Mallydams that Dolly is doing very well, she is eating well and gaining weight nicely.

“It was nice that members of the public recognised that we could help.”

Despite being more well-known for human rescues, the RNLI saves hundreds of animals across the UK every year.

More than 2000 animals have been saved by the charity since 2010.

The RNLI recently said it had seen a boost in donations after its volunteers were targeted by anti-migrant protestors.

The seal, named Dolly after late singer Dolly Parton, was found injured on the beach by Hastings harbour…

[26
90,56,54,55,4407
post-777254","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom","tag-wildlife
["GET
