{"id":77736,"date":"2025-08-19T12:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T12:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/77736\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T12:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T12:28:11","slug":"consultation-launched-on-deposit-return-scheme-for-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/77736\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultation launched on Deposit Return Scheme for Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                            <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-255404\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/01_05507-scaled-e1755537792472.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"\/>Huw Irranca-Davies at the historic Corona Pop Factory site in Porth<\/p>\n<p>Deputy First Minister with responsibility for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Huw Irranca-Davies, launched a consultation into a Deposit Return Scheme for Wales at the historic Corona Pop Factory site in Porth on 18 August.<\/p>\n<p>The 12-week consultation, which runs until 10 November, will shape the approach to introducing a scheme that includes glass drink containers and prioritizes reuse over traditional recycling methods.<\/p>\n<p>With Wales already having the second highest recycling rate globally, this deposit return scheme builds on that success by supporting the transition to reuse, which delivers significantly greater environmental benefits than recycling alone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.craftfestival.co.uk\/wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/CRAFTFestivalWALES-Nation.Cymru-728px-x-90px-ENGLISH.gif\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reuse<\/p>\n<p>International evidence demonstrates that reuse reduces material costs for producers whilst providing clear pathways to decarbonisation.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation examines how glass inclusion can tackle litter, improve \u2018on-the-go\u2019 recycling infrastructure, and create economic opportunities through reuse.<\/p>\n<p>In the run up to the consultation there has already been extensive engagement with stakeholders, including a national conference and sector-specific workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme will complement existing environmental policies and support Wales\u2019 journey towards net zero.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.llyfrgell.cymru\/ymweld\/pethau-iw-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/4776_NLW_No-Welsh-Art-Digital-Advert_Mar-2025_Land_V2_CY-1-1.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bold<\/p>\n<p>Deputy First Minister, Huw Irranca-Davies, said: \u201cWales has always led by example on environmental action, and the deposit return scheme represents our next bold step forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVisiting the old Corona Pop Factory, once a hub for reusable glass bottles, was a reminder that we\u2019re not inventing something new \u2013 we\u2019re returning to the best of our industrial heritage whilst building a sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy putting reuse at the center of our approach, we\u2019re not just tackling waste \u2013 we\u2019re creating a model that other nations can follow.
