Earl Spencer has remained outwardly close with Prince Harry over the years amid the Duke of Sussex\u2019s strained relations with the Windsors, while his relationship with his nephew Prince William remains a lot more private.<\/p>\n

The earl said in an interview with the BBC that he did not take sides in the row between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex.<\/p>\n

He told the BBC: \u201cI\u2019m on my deceased sister\u2019s sons\u2019 side, both of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if either of them wanted anything then I\u2019d be equally there for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I never get involved in one camp or the other, except as a benign figure I hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earl Spencer said there are a \u201clot of reasons on both sides\u201d why the brothers\u2019 relationship had \u201cgot to this stage\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI hope one day it\u2019s resolved, but I don\u2019t know all \u2013 I certainly don\u2019t know what\u2019s been done in the finer detail and so I would feel intrusive if I got more involved than to say of course a mother would want her two sons to be happy together and love each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earl Spencer has said his renowned funeral eulogy, in which he said his sister’s qualities would never be “extinguished from our minds”, was a “direct rebuttal” of the prince’s comments.<\/p>\n

Princess Diana\u2019s brother has claimed that then-prince Charles said \u201cwe’ll forget her [Diana] soon enough\u201d as part of a \u201cstream of anger\u201d over the phone prior to her funeral.<\/p>\n

He told the BBC that his recollection of the now king\u2019s comments “will not be a surprise” to Prince Harry and Prince William.<\/p>\n

Earl Spencer\u2019s bombshell memoir is set to be released on Tuesday after a week of allegations being released through serialisation in The Mail.<\/p>\n

So far, the Earl has made claims about King Charles\u2019 behaviour around his ex-wife\u2019s death before he was king. <\/p>\n

The then-prince said \u201cwe\u2019ll forget her soon enough\u201d after Diana died in a \u201cstream of anger\u201d after the Earl protested to the idea that William and Harry should walk in the procession.Charles \u201csounded giddily elated \u2013 like a lottery winner\u201d in a phone call to the Earl following Diana\u2019s car crash.The Earl also told of his memories of the funeral, and his concern for Harry, after he observed a \u201clack of obvious care\u201d for the then 12-year-old prince.<\/p>\n

Earl Spencer has also spoken to the BBC where he doubled down on claims made in the memoir. <\/p>\n

He also opened up about the Martin Bashir scandal and Diana\u2019s relationship with the disgraced former owner of Harrods, Mohammed Al Fayed, father of her partner Dodi.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Why is Earl Spencer writing this book now?<\/p>\n

Speaking about the book last month, Earl Spencer said: \u201cWith the 30th anniversary of Diana\u2019s tragic death on the skyline, I\u2019ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother\u2019s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana\u2019s behalf and do so in an openly positive way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this book will be of interest to the many who still cherish the memory of Diana when she was alive, and I would be delighted if those too young to remember her in her heyday feel \u2013 after reading this \u2013 that they \u2018get\u2019 who she really was: a one-off dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his motivations for writing the book, the earl told the BBC this week it was his \u201cduty\u2026 as an eyewitness to history\u201d.<\/p>\n
