PC Harper’s killer is not a danger to society and was only convicted of sexual assault because he is a Traveller, his mother has claims.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old mother of Albert Bowers, Donna-Marie Bowers, launched a furious attack on the decision to keep her son in prison and described her son as “not a danger to anyone now”.<\/p>\n

She rejected the claim that the officer’s death was “a tragic accident” and directed her anger at the British public and Prime Minister Andy Burnham.<\/p>\n

In a series of Facebook posts, she blamed a petition signed by more than one million people for blocking her son’s early release.<\/p>\n

She wrote that the Prime Minister “might as well stand down and let the public just rule the country” if “he is just going to fold every time he gets a bit of pressure”.<\/p>\n

Mrs Bowers told The Daily Mail that her son and his co-defendant “didn’t mean to do what they done”.<\/p>\n

PC Harper, a 28-year-old newlywed, was killed in Berkshire in 2019 after he attempted to intervene as a group of teenagers stole a quad bike.<\/p>\n

The officer became entangled with the gang’s getaway vehicle and was dragged for approximately a mile, suffering fatal injuries.<\/p>\n

Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole, both 17 at the time, were passengers in the car driven by 19-year-old ringleader Henry Long.<\/p>\n

The pair were acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter, each receiving a 13-year sentence.<\/p>\n

Both Bowers and Cole, now 24, had been eligible for release after completing half their terms under Labour’s early release scheme.<\/p>\n

However, following a widespread public campaign backed by PC Harper’s family, the Prime Minister intervened by excluding those convicted of unlawful killing from the programme.<\/p>\n

In her online outburst, written in broken English, Mrs Bowers maintained that only “some of the public” were against the release, despite the petition attracting over a million signatures.<\/p>\n

Mrs Bowers additionally shared posts attacking what she called “double standards” among campaigners, alleging that “most of the corrupt scum who wear the uniform are being protected by their like-minded colleagues”.<\/p>\n

A prison source described the killer as “evil” and “completely devoid of any morals or any humanity”, adding that he treats PC Harper’s death “almost like a medal”.<\/p>\n

The source told The Daily Mail that Bowers had “never shown a moment’s regret” and was photographed smiling on his way to court appearances.<\/p>\n

PC Harper’s family said they were “re-traumatised” by the battle to prevent the early release of his killers.<\/p>\n
