Paper Tiger, Gray’s return to crime movies, is fresh out of the festivals, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and continued Gray’s streak of coming home empty-handed. Still, it’s picking up early Oscar buzz, and one look at the new trailer makes it easy to see why: Three of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars from The Avengers, Top Gun, and Star Wars, all doing their biggest, broadest, and thickest New York accents. They are walking over here, indeed.

But, considering who’s behind the camera, the subject matter is obviously much more severe than we’re letting on. Recalling Gray’s previous entanglements with the Russian mob in We Own The Night, Paper Tiger sees a naive engineer New Yorker named Irwin (Teller) going into business with his brother, Gary (Driver), a former cop known for engaging in some shady dealings. After Irwin witnesses a crime on the Gowanus Canal, the Russian mafia sets their sights on the everyman, threatens his entire family, and gets ScarJo up at some ungodly hour to yell at the men in her life. Now it’s up to Gary to come clean or get everyone killed.

Paper Tiger opens on November 13.

Originally a pseudo-sequel to his previous film, Armageddon Time, the latest from director James Gray brings scandal to…

[27
96,2839,56,54,55
post-779232","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-movies","tag-entertainment","tag-movies","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
