Taylor Swift<\/a> has announced that her newest single, titled \u201cPatient Zero,\u201d will be released this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single \u2018Patient Zero\u2019 will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!),\u201d she wrote on Instagram. \u201cAnd it\u2019s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three versions of the song are available to buy as CDs on Swift\u2019s website<\/a>: the original, an acoustic version and a piano version. All three CDs feature different photos of 36-year-old Swift.<\/p>\n

Speculation over a potential musical release <\/a>kicked off Tuesday morning when Swift fans noticed that the singer changed every \u201co\u201d in her Instagram bio to a zero. Lyrics of her songs on Apple Music and Spotify also replaced random \u201co\u201d letters in songs to zeroes.<\/p>\n

The new song follows her last album, The Life of a Showgirl, which Swift released October 3, 2025. <\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

On Swift\u2019s website, Showgirl\u2019s album logo appears in the shopping cart during the process of buying \u201cPatient Zero,\u201d leading to speculation that the new song could be a previously unreleased part of that record.<\/p>\n

However, nothing is confirmed, and theorists can only hope that Swift will provide more clarity when she attends this weekend\u2019s 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.<\/p>\n

The 14-time Grammy winner is slated to attend the live event \u2014 which is where she announced her album Midnights in 2022 <\/a>\u2014 Sunday to receive the Inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, which will make her the most awarded artist in the award show\u2019s history.<\/a><\/p>\n

Swift sent fans into a frenzy after last week\u2019s Emmy Awards, when she made a surprise appearance in a pre-taped sketch<\/a> and appeared to hint at new music.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what we\u2019re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight,\u201d Swift told Emmys host Mariska Hargitay <\/a>in the clip before rattling off what seemed to be a series of Easter eggs pointing to upcoming music: \u201cSaccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or south.\u201d <\/p>\n

Before this, the last song that Swift released was \u201cI Knew It, I Knew You,\u201d which she wrote for Toy Story 5. Weeks before the movie came out in June, Swift began teasing the song at the end of May with billboards<\/a> showing Pixar\u2019s signature cloudy sky with her initials on them.<\/p>\n
