<\/p>\nWith the County Championship title still within reach, the message in the Notts camp is simple heading into the season finale: focus on their own performance, and let the rest take care of itself.<\/p>\n
Nottinghamshire face Yorkshire from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September (10.30am start), and in-form batter Jack Haynes says the side will approach the game the same way they always do.<\/p>\n
Haynes is part of a 15-man squad for the encounter.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s probably no difference to any other game, to be honest,\u201d said Haynes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve still got a sniff of winning the Championship, which is exciting. But it\u2019s about focusing on our game and not worrying about what\u2019s happening at Edgbaston or Taunton. If we go and play our best cricket, whatever happens, happens from there.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe position we\u2019re in is pretty clear: we\u2019ve got to win and play well. We probably didn\u2019t play our best cricket last week, which was disappointing, but if we perform, fingers crossed we\u2019ll give ourselves a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last week’s defeat away at Sussex has provided added motivation heading into the finale.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was disappointing. We were probably outplayed in all three facets, which is frustrating and hasn\u2019t happened too much over the last couple of years,\u201d Haynes reflected.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we\u2019ve had a good week to reflect and train, so hopefully we can bounce back. We\u2019ve done that before this season \u2014 after Somerset at home, we responded well against Essex \u2014 so hopefully it\u2019s the same again.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve built a really strong record over the last two or three years, especially at home.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s a tough place for teams to come, and that\u2019s something we want to maintain. To put in a good performance in front of our supporters one last time this season will be exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n
On a personal level, Haynes is enjoying the most fruitful summer of his career, hitting 900 red-ball runs to date at 47.36.<\/p>\n
The right-hander feels consistency has been key to his productive campaign with the bat.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been about continually working on my basics and not trying to change too much,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve trusted my game more and worked hard with the coaches. Luckily, I\u2019ve managed to score runs across formats, and I\u2019d love to finish with a match-winning contribution this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got a very strong batting line-up and it\u2019s been solid for a couple of years now. There are some great players in there and we\u2019ve scored a lot of runs. Batting alongside Joey [Clarke], Hass [Hameed] and Slats [Ben Slater] – all the lads who\u2019ve done brilliantly – has been great. Joey, especially this year, has been fantastic. It\u2019s nice to feel like I\u2019m playing a part in that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Standing in their way are a Yorkshire side equally motivated to end their season positively.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ll be on a high and will want to finish well. They\u2019ve been a solid side all year, so we know it\u2019ll be a tough challenge,” he said.<\/p>\n
“They\u2019ll want to take a win back for their supporters, and so do we. It should be a good game, the last one of the season always is.\u201d<\/p>\n
With both sides aiming to finish strongly, an exciting contest awaits at Trent Bridge.<\/p>\n
