Picture: Doug Minihane<\/p>\nCork man Steven Cairns will be back in boxing action on Saturday, August 23rd, when he faces Telford fighter Kirk Stevens in a Lightweight bout that is scheduled for eight rounds on a Queensberry Promotion\u2019s card at Planet Ice Altrincham in Trafford, Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n
The 23 year-old, dubbed \u2018The Irish Takeover\u2019 whose last fight was at the National Stadium where beat the tough Mexican fighter Francisco Javier Lucero with a stunning stoppage in the third round, and as usual he celebrated this victory with his signature backflip.<\/p>\n
Ciarns is working hard with his trainer David Coldwell at his base in Rotherham for this fight and is after getting in some quality sparring with Mark Chamberlain, who headlines the card on the night, he will hope to remain unbeaten and go to 12-0 in his pro career.<\/p>\n
Coldwell is a renowned name in boxing circles.<\/p>\n
He brings a huge bundle of experience into Cairns corner, especially from his former role as coach of the previous Cruiserweight World title holder and heavyweight boxer Tony Bellow.<\/p>\n
His opponent Stevens will be tricky opponent for Cairns as he won his last fight on points against follow English man Sam Kirk and will be looking to cause a upset and be the first man to get the victory over Cairns.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, he will have to be at his very best if that is to happen, as he is coming up against a fighter that ranks a lot higher in Cairns.<\/p>\n

Steven is eagerly looking forward to this fight as it gives him another opportunity to showcase his skills and talent.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah I can\u2019t wait to get in there and show what I\u2019ve been working on the past few months and do a job,\u201d Steven said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took two weeks off after my last fight, when I stopped Francisco Javier Lucero in the third round at the National Stadium in Dublin, however, I\u2019ve been in the gym ever since improving daily and getting some great work in camp.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know he\u2019s a game opponent who\u2019s coming to win and has previously won the Central Area title in the UK, so it\u2019s a good fight for me to show people how good I am.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy training camp has gone perfect.<\/p>\n

“All the work I\u2019ve been doing with Dave has been great, as I have been working on new things everyday and perfecting techniques and also my fitness has gone through the roof.<\/p>\n
