I’m not sure what’s more surprising: that Xbox never had a Platinum Trophy equivalent, that Xbox feels the need to have a Platinum Trophy equivalent, or that it’s adding a Platinum Trophy equivalent now while restructuring the company.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, that’s what Microsoft appears to be doing. The Xbox PC App has reportedly been updated with a new Xbox Mythic Achievement that features an elaborate starred and laurelled symbol design, and an accompanying unlock sound that’s 15-seconds long!<\/p>\n
The update was spotted by reputable Xbox-watcher Klobrille<\/a>, with website TrueAchievements adding<\/a> that Mythic Achievements are worth zero Gamerscore and apparently retroactive. But there’s no official confirmation of the Achievement yet, nor confirmation if it works exactly like a PlayStation Platinum Trophy – which is to say you earn it after earning every other Achievement or Trophy in a game. Sharma said: “Team is working on something for later this year!” The comment was made in relation to a wider Achievement overhaul Microsoft announced it was working on<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Mythic naming, incidentally, is a nod to Halo’s top-tier difficulty, although it’s also a naming convention the Xbox-owned studio Blizzard has adopted across its wide roster of games to denote ‘the absolute best thing’ you can get, or challenge that you can face.<\/p>\n Speaking of Halo: Microsoft announced huge changes to the series this week when it revealed that Halo Studios was to all-but close and Halo development would move under the control of Activision – the publisher it bought for a colossal $68.7bn in 2023<\/a> – as part of a second wave of Xbox restructuring. Activision has “purpose-built” a new team, apparently, to develop the next Halo game.<\/p>\n It’s a move that understandably has the Halo community concerned<\/a>. Alongside questions around the next Halo Fest event, there’s uncertainty around Activision plans for the future of the series. Especially given that, with Halo Studios’ effective closure and the loss of so many jobs, the series loses a wealth of knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n Halo Studios wasn’t the only casualty of the latest Xbox restructuring<\/a>, with 268 jobs being lost in total across the division. Hellblade developer Ninja Theory is all-but closing<\/a> after acquisition deals fell through; Age of Empires developer World’s Edge reportedly lost half its team<\/a> as it transitioned to Activision; RPG developer Obsidian moved under Bethesda’s control<\/a>, for better or worse; Forza (and Fable) developers Playground and Turn 10 were merged; and Rare moved under Activision as well.
