{"id":781900,"date":"2026-09-25T06:34:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T06:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/781900\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T06:34:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T06:34:13","slug":"tranent-belters-to-pedal-420-virtual-miles-to-welsh-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/781900\/","title":{"rendered":"Tranent Belters to pedal 420 virtual miles to Welsh town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Tranent Belters will use six exercise bikes to pedal the virtual distance between their home town and their sister club Gilfach Goch Bowler Hats in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastlothiancourier.com\/news\/25702705.tranent-belters-complete-cycle-challenge-good-causes\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">South Wales<\/a> on Saturday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The challenge will take place at East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club in the town, starting at about 9am, when the first set of about 30 Belters hit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastlothiancourier.com\/topics\/cycling\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bikes,<\/a> with the challenge continuing until they have clocked up the full 420 miles.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The clubs have a long-standing friendship, with members having a tradition of travelling to support their respective nations during Scotland v Wales Six Nations fixtures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Douglas Robertson, secretary of Tranent Belters Social &amp; Charity Club, said that the group were excited to once again hit the bikes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cWe used to do an annual sponsored walk but at this time of the year, you never ken what weather you\u2019re going to get.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSo we came up with the idea of an indoor sponsored cycle.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The event is being held to raise money for county charities and good causes supported by the Belters throughout the year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Although the group will benefit from avoiding uphill tracks on their cycle, the challenge promises to be plenty of hard work for riders with no downhill sections or opportunities to coast as they work towards their virtual destination.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Members of the public are being encouraged to come along, cheer on the cyclists and support the fundraiser.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Donations can be made at the event or by contacting the Tranent Belters through their Facebook page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tranent Belters will use six exercise bikes to pedal the virtual distance between their home town and their&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":781901,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[37],"tags":[4985,101,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-781900","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cycling","tag-cycling","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/781900","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=781900"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/781900\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/781901"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=781900"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=781900"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=781900"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
