\n\tTom Holland<\/a> has found his dance partners for Sony Pictures\u2019 yet-to-be-titled Fred Astaire<\/a> biopic: Margaret Qualley<\/a> and Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs previously announced, Holland will play the debonair dancer in the upcoming film, directed by Paul King, with Amy Pascal producing. Golden Globe nominee Qualley (\u201cMaid,\u201d \u201cThe Substance,\u201d \u201cLove of Your Life\u201d) will star as Adele Astaire, while Grammy winner Carpenter will portray Ginger Rogers. Fred and Adele were major stars on Broadway and London\u2019s West End before Fred went on to be one of cinema\u2019s greatest stars, with co-star and dance partner Ginger Rogers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am thrilled and honored to have been entrusted with telling the story of Fred Astaire and his original dance partner \u2014 his big sister Adele \u2014 to the big screen,\u201d King said in a statement about the casting news. \u201cFred left a timeless legacy of dance on film \u2014 most famously in his collaborations with Ginger Rogers \u2014 while Adele\u2019s work has been lost to history; indeed, no footage of her dancing survives. The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the twentieth century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKing directs from a script he co-wrote with Steven Levenson, based on the book \u201cThe Astaires: Fred & Adele\u201d by Kathleen Riley. Riley also serves as a script and story consultant. <\/p>\n

\n\tAva Astaire McKenzie, Fred Astaire\u2019s daughter, and her son, Tyler McKenzie, who serves as a consultant and co-producer on the project, also shared their support.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m delighted to support this endeavor to celebrate the extraordinary careers and enduring legacy of my father and aunt, who were among the biggest musical stars of their era,\u201d said Astaire McKenzie. \u201cWith Kathleen Riley\u2019s seminal biography as its foundation, and the creative team in place, the story of their partnership both on and off the stage is in the best care.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMcKenzie added: \u201cGuided by the incredible filmmaking team led by director Paul King, writer Steven Levenson, producer Amy Pascal and Tom Holland, I know their legacy will be beautifully brought to life for a whole new generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFred Astaire starred in more than 30 film musicals, in addition to his stage career on Broadway and the West End over the course of a seven-decade career. Astaire is usually remembered for his pairings with Rogers, who starred in several films with him, including the classics \u201cSwing Time\u201d (1936), \u201cThe Gay Divorcee\u201d (1934) and \u201cTop Hat\u201d (1935).<\/p>\n

\n\tHolland has been attached to star as Astaire for five years<\/a>, and after spending the summer with dominating the box office with \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d<\/a> and \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d <\/a>he\u2019s been rehearsing for the part. (The movies are the two highest-grossing films of 2026.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m diving back into the dance studio,\u201d Holland teased during a recent appearance on \u201cGood Morning America.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tOne might remember that before he was a Marvel superhero, Holland began his acting career on the London stage, playing the title role in \u201cBilly Elliot the Musical\u201d on the West End from 2008 to 2010. With that background, Holland also said that he intended to do all of the dancing himself<\/a>. \u201cI have a desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot \u2014 how he would have done it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to starring in the film, Holland is also among the producers on the project (via his Billy 17 banner), alongside Pascal and Rachel O\u2019Connor (for Pascal Pictures); and Ben Holden and Josh Hyams (for Lightbulb Pictures). Executive producers are Harry Holland and Will South (on behalf of Billy17), Will Clarke and Andy Mayson (Altitude Films) and Levenson.<\/p>\n
