{"id":783514,"date":"2026-09-26T18:52:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-26T18:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/783514\/"},"modified":"2026-09-26T18:52:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-26T18:52:09","slug":"blue-plaque-unveiled-in-honour-of-mott-the-hoople-singer-in-oswestry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/783514\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue plaque unveiled in honour of Mott the Hoople singer in Oswestry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The plaque installation had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cj9pzxz1y3ko\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">been organised <\/a>by councillor Duncan Kerr after permission was granted by Oswestry Town Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Formed in Herefordshire in the 1960s, Mott the Hoople&#8217;s best-remembered single is 1972 hit All The Young Dudes, written by David Bowie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The band split in 1974, but have reformed on a number of occasions for tours and live gigs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Patterson, who himself is also a musician, said he was surprised by the number of people who turned out to attend the unveiling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The round plaque, which features a lyric from Hunter&#8217;s 1976 track Irene Wilde, &#8220;gonna be somebody someday&#8221;, meant a &#8220;huge amount&#8221; to the family, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Growing up, we always knew who my granddad was, he was just pops to all of us.
