\n\tSylvester Stallone<\/a> is opening up about the less glamorous side of fame, revealing that he\u2019s struggled with a tumultuous relationship with his body ever since he physically transformed to play the titular boxer in \u201cRocky.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with The New York Times,<\/a> the famed actor delved into his \u201cintimate\u201d relationship with his body and how it\u2019s changed over time. \u201cIt was my armor. I looked at Rocky: very smooth, very normal-looking guy. And then I said, I think the character would start to become a bit more vain. And then in \u2018Rambo,\u2019 you\u2019re playing a warrior, so you\u2019d be a little bit more animalistic. You wouldn\u2019t be so smooth,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I started to think: Design your body like a jaguar, a cat. Not big like Arnold, but more feral and aggressive and very limber and athletic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, Stallone admitted that this type of thinking \u201cbecame an obsession.\u201d \u201cIt got to the point where I became bulimic,\u201d he said. \u201cI got down to 2.6 percent body fat when I was doing \u2018Rocky III,\u2019 and I couldn\u2019t hold anything down. Or I didn\u2019t want to keep it down because I became so obsessed with staying at that point of fitness, literally an obsessive body-worship kind of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSteroids played a role, also, he continued: \u201cNobody does it without additives and drugs, period. I don\u2019t care what they say. It isn\u2019t as though you\u2019re a junkie, but if you\u2019re going to work out and try to stay in shape for six months straight, and you\u2019re eating yogurt and pudding, it\u2019s not happening.\u201d He noted that he\u2019d use the drugs \u201cin a sensitive way \u2014 six weeks on, six weeks off.\u201d \u201cPeople go, \u2018Oh, you don\u2019t get that way naturally.\u2019 No, you don\u2019t. But that also took a terrible toll.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt wasn\u2019t until I did \u2018Cop Land,\u2019 when I had to play the weakest guy in the room \u2014 partially deaf, overweight \u2014 that I felt somewhat liberated,\u201d he said. \u201cBut yeah, I\u2019ve abused my body.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tToday, Stallone said he no longer sees his body as his armor, but treating it in the \u201cmasochistic\u201d ways he did came \u201cat a terrible price.\u201d \u201cIf I could do it over again, I would say, \u2018Let someone else carry the banner and don\u2019t do your own stunts,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
