{"id":786168,"date":"2026-09-29T08:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T08:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/786168\/"},"modified":"2026-09-29T08:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T08:26:09","slug":"dad-to-swim-with-sharks-to-get-through-double-cancer-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/786168\/","title":{"rendered":"Dad to swim with sharks to get through double cancer diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">When Luke Rogers had a diagnosis of cancer for the second time before turning 35, he was crushed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After going through his first diagnosis of melanoma while his wife was pregnant, he says the separate diagnosis of kidney cancer came &#8220;completely out of the blue&#8221;.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The IT manager from Perton, Staffordshire, says he &#8220;couldn&#8217;t curl up in a ball and let it defeat him&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">So, while physically recovering from surgery in his Russells Hall Hospital bed over Christmas, Luke came up with a plan to help his mental health as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He decided 2026 would be the year he set himself challenges &#8211; and chose to become a qualified diver and swim with great white sharks in Australia. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There was just something in me that was just like, &#8216;right, you just carry on&#8217;. It&#8217;s a welcome distraction for me.
