{"id":786608,"date":"2026-09-29T18:12:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T18:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/786608\/"},"modified":"2026-09-29T18:12:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T18:12:13","slug":"car-enters-river-wear-in-sunderland-with-large-rescue-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/786608\/","title":{"rendered":"Car enters River Wear in Sunderland with large rescue response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A car has entered a river prompting a large rescue response from emergency services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Northumbria Police is asking people to avoid the area by the River Wear in Sunderland, near to Wearmouth Bridge, where a cordon is in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The force said it received a report of a car going into the river at about 13:30 BST and emergency services were at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said its teams, including rescue boats, were also &#8220;assisting blue light colleagues with the ongoing rescue efforts&#8221;. It is not known how many people were in the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Images show ambulances, police cars and a fire engine lining the river bank where a metal railing is damaged. Two rescue boats were also seen in the river.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed it had sent several crews to the scene, including an air ambulance, and was working with the coastguard and police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A car has entered a river prompting a large rescue response from emergency services.
