{"id":787186,"date":"2026-09-30T07:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T07:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/787186\/"},"modified":"2026-09-30T07:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T07:20:09","slug":"irish-lifes-unio-hires-from-goodbody-to-boost-offering-to-wealth-management-clients-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/787186\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish Life\u2019s Unio hires from Goodbody to boost offering to wealth management clients \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-life\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-life\">Irish Life\u2019s<\/a> Unio Wealth Management has lured two executives from stockbroker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/goodbody\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/goodbody\/\">Goodbody\u2019s<\/a> regional offices and a former senior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/davy-group\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/davy-group\/\">Davy<\/a> private clients adviser as competition for staff in the sector gathers pace. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Unio has hired Andrew Mathers, formerly regional director with Goodbody, with responsibility for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\">Cork<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\">Galway<\/a>, to lead the company\u2019s regional growth strategy. Mathers, described by Unio as \u201cone of Ireland\u2019s most experienced regional wealth managers\u201d, previously worked for Bank of Ireland Private Banking. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Unio has also appointed Daniel O\u2019Sullivan, who previously worked as a senior wealth manager in Goodbody Cork and, before that, with Credit Suisse in London, as a director, based in Cork. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In addition, the company has recruited Ross Kavanagh, who had served for seven years as an associate director with Davy\u2019s private clients unit before working as investment director for a family office for the past two years. He is joining Unio as a director on its independent wealth team, based in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\">Dublin<\/a> headquarters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTogether, these appointments mark another key milestone in our growth commitment, and a clear signal that we intend to build on this momentum in the years ahead,\u201d Unio managing director Derek Buckley said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Competition for senior talented staff has intensified in the wealth management sector. It comes at a time of rising household wealth, a growing but ageing population and, more recently, plans by the Government to set up a savings and investment scheme for small investors. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Overseas firms have also been expanding into Ireland in recent times, including US ultra-high-net-worth wealth adviser Silvercrest Asset Management, which has set up its first EU base in Dublin, and UK-based Rathbones, which is planning to establish a hub in the city. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Long-term players have faced increased competition from private equity-backed Kestrel Capital and local new entrants such as Fordel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Total Irish net household wealth has grown 124 per cent over the past decade to \u20ac1.4 trillion, with average net wealth standing at \u20ac729,000 at the end of 2025, driven by property assets, according to a report published during summer by Fordel. The firm was founded in 2020 by former Davy executives Stephen Felle and Adam Cleland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Irish Times reported  this month that Unio\u2019s head of institutional business, Richard White, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/09\/03\/wealth-management-shake-up-continues-as-more-senior-figures-exit-davy-and-unio\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/09\/03\/wealth-management-shake-up-continues-as-more-senior-figures-exit-davy-and-unio\/\">was leaving to establish his own firm<\/a>, while Fordel had hired one of its investment directors, Paddy Swan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Irish Life set up Unio as a stand-alone wealth management business in 2023 to house a number of companies it had acquired over the previous five years, including Invesco, Acumen &amp; Trust, APT and Harvest Financial Services.
