The ‘Caring’ and ‘Responsive’ categories were both rated good.

Concerns raised by care sector inspectors

CQC inspectors found medicines were “not always managed safely” and said patients did not always receive medicines as prescribed.

The report also highlighted concerns around risk management, with some assessments missing for activities and situations including transport, personal care, medical conditions, swimming and falls risks.

The CQC found that some safeguarding concerns had not been appropriately reported to the local authority and said governance systems were “ineffective in identifying and addressing shortfalls”.

Inspectors also raised concerns about consent processes, finding that decision-specific mental capacity assessments and best-interest decisions for patients were not always in place where required.

Overall, the regulator identified four breaches of legal regulations relating to the management of risks, medicines, consent to care and treatment, and governance and safe recruitment.

The provider has been asked to submit an action plan setting out how it will address the issues.

Family of patients provide “positive” feedback

Despite the failings identified by inspectors, the report also noted that the families of those cared for by agency staff, as well as other care professionals they worked with, shared positive feedback about the In Caring Hands team.

In the report, CQC inspectors noted: “People were not always able to tell us about their experiences. Therefore, we obtained feedback from their relatives which was overall positive.”

One relative told inspectors they were “very happy with the provider”, while another described it as “the most person-centred service that [person] has.”

The report also noted that care staff were recognised and appreciated by patients’ families, with one relative commenting: “Staff are kind and caring.”

Inspectors found people were supported by a consistent team of staff who knew them well, and said care focused on promoting independence and encouraging participation in meaningful activities.

 Caring agency commit to improvements

The CQC said the registered manager responded positively during the assessment and had already begun making improvements after concerns were raised.

However, inspectors concluded that a number of the problems identified had not been discovered through the provider’s own monitoring systems.

John Manlove, Managing Director of In Caring Hands Limited, told the Somerset County Gazette: “I can confirm that all corrective actions necessary have been implemented. Indeed, they were implemented before the end of the CQC’s stand-still period for factual correctness of their report.”

He added: “Regrettably, the CQC do not formally review these actions for at least 6-12 months following inspection but please be assured that we took prompt action where it was needed.”

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessed In Caring Hands Wells, which provides personal care to people in their…

[43
102,2960,56,54,55
post-787760","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
