I think it\u2019s worth acknowledging that in the last few weeks we\u2019ve got word of a new Killzone<\/a> and Uncharted<\/a>, while Sony has rolled out new technology that backports its PSSR upscaler to base PS5 hardware<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And now, it sounds like the manufacturer may be plotting a new Ape Escape<\/a> game!<\/p>\n

If the past few months of PR blunders have been tough to take for PlayStation fans, then let\u2019s hope this is the beginning of a redemption arc.<\/p>\n

On the subject of Sony\u2019s primate platformer, rumours have been swirling about a new game ever since Astro Bot<\/a>, which somewhat revived the popularity of the PS1 (and PS2) property.<\/p>\n

But rock-solid rumourmonger NatetheHate2<\/a> underlined the speculation today, responding on the ResetEra<\/a> forums with a line of knowing \u201ceyes\u201d emojis.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises,\u201d he wrote, referring to remarks he made a while back<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He went on to say that Astro Bot dev Team ASOBI is not working on the series<\/a>, and neither has it been outsourced to Bandai Namco<\/a> to his knowledge. (Sony licensed some of its old franchises to the third-party publisher recently, like Patapon<\/a> and Hot Shots Golf<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Sony\u2019s flogging tons of Ape Escape merchandise in Japan, and new PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino has said he wants to do better domestically. I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if this game is being made with the Japanese market in mind, then. (Although of course it will be sold worldwide.)<\/p>\n

To be honest this is really exciting news, because along with the Killzone and Uncharted rumours, it shows the platform holder is willing to once again reconnect with its past and bring back franchises longtime fans love.<\/p>\n

Obviously at this stage nothing\u2019s been announced so it\u2019s hard to get too excited, but just knowing there\u2019s some activity taking place here is extremely exciting to see.<\/p>\n
