A new startup wants to give wealthy tech insiders access to some of the hottest private-company deals.<\/p>\n
Get Access<\/a> has launched a platform that pools money from individual investors so they can invest together in later-stage startup funding rounds that are usually limited to venture firms and large institutions, from Series B onward. <\/p>\n The deals are referred by Get Access contributors, including mega AI investor Elad Gil<\/a> and Box CEO Aaron Levie. Its first deals include Crusoe’s<\/a> recent $3.9 billion size funding round,<\/a> according to the startup’s CEO Michael Goodbody. <\/p>\n The startup has now raised $5 million at an $85 million post-money valuation, led by\u00a0Guy Oseary<\/a>\u00a0at Sound Ventures, with a number of angel investors, including Levie, Lux Capital managing partner Josh Wolfe, and\u00a0Eventbrite co-founder Kevin Hartz participating.<\/p>\n Get Access is part of a growing push to open up the private-tech boom to people outside the small circle of top venture firms and institutions.<\/p>\n With companies staying private longer and often reaching valuations<\/a> in the tens or hundreds of billions of dollars before an IPO, the startup is offering well-connected executives and individual investors a seat at the table for later-stage deals, while promising founders a network of backers who can help with hiring, partnerships, and buzz.<\/p>\n The startup makes money mainly through membership fees. It says it brought in its first $1 million in revenue within five days of a private launch. Members don’t pay management or access fees on individual investments, but Get Access takes 10% of any profits.<\/p>\n Rival platform AngelList already lets investors form syndicates to back startups. Get Access is trying to stand out by making its network more selective: Members must offer more than money, whether that’s operating experience, industry connections, or the ability to help a young company get noticed.<\/p>\n The pitch comes as private startups such as OpenAI<\/a> and Anthropic<\/a> reach private valuations once reserved for public companies.
