London Now report for full details of the investigation and how the evidence led to the successful prosecution.

Cllr Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, cabinet member for transport, climate change, waste, and streets, said: “Fly-tippers should know: if you dump waste in Greenwich, the council are coming for you.

“Fly-tipping blights our neighbourhoods, disrespects our residents, and we will not stand for it.

“Our investigators will use every tool at their disposal to ensure fly-tippers are caught, and this case is a clear example of how even a single piece of evidence can lead us back to those responsible.

“This case also showcases the power of organisations working together to keep the borough we all love clean and to get things done.

“Thank you to the diligent Peabody Neighbourhood Warden who reported the fly-tip to our council officers and provided the initial information to begin the investigation.”

Officers found a damaged delivery label on a cardboard box with only partial details.

Although the label alone was not enough to identify the culprit, further online research and checks against council records led them to a suspect.

During an interview, an individual confirmed the identity of the fly-tipper, allowing officers to issue a £1,000 fixed penalty notice, which has since been paid in full.

The council said the case was a successful outcome of a complex environmental crime investigation.

Residents are being urged to help identify fly-tippers by submitting information through the council’s Person of Binterest scheme, which shares CCTV footage of suspects.

People can also submit evidence if they witness fly-tipping, including photos, videos, doorbell camera footage, dashcam recordings, or CCTV.

All evidence must be unedited and include the date and time of the incident.

“Our dedicated team will review evidence submitted, and if it leads to a successful fine or prosecution, residents could receive a £100 reward.

“Evidence can be submitted online.”

So far, eight reward payments have been issued to residents whose evidence led directly to enforcement action.

The council has issued more than 1,040 fines this year as part of its wider crackdown on fly-tipping.

This forms part of its £5 million Getting Things Done scheme, which aims to keep streets cleaner by punishing offenders, improving clean-up processes, and making it easier for residents to dispose of rubbish responsibly.

Residents can book a bulky waste collection through the council website or take unwanted items to the Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Fly-tipping remains a criminal offence, and those caught face fines and potential prosecution.

The council continues to remind residents and businesses that proper waste disposal helps keep communities clean and safe.

Bags of waste and an abandoned suitcase were discovered on a public footpath near communal bins on Booth…

[22
1397,90,56,54,55
post-790380","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-environment","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
