Liverpool<\/a> have warmed to the idea of selling big-money signing Florian Wirtz, according to a German source, despite a previous report stating that the attacking midfielder is set to stay at Anfield.<\/p>\n

Liverpool beat Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City to Wirtz when they signed him for a whopping \u00a3116million in June 2025. Wirtz arrived surrounded by huge expectations, and while the playmaker showed signs of his clear talent in his debut season, he ultimately disappointed fans.<\/p>\n

It took Wirtz<\/a> several months to adapt to the Premier League. This campaign, he needs to prove his worth for Liverpool by contributing goals and assists regularly.<\/p>\n

Our friends at TEAMtalk<\/a> revealed on September 22 that Liverpool are committed to helping Wirtz shine and do not plan on selling him anytime soon.<\/p>\n

The Reds believe Wirtz can prove his quality and help steer them to major trophies, helping to live up to his massive price tag in the process.<\/p>\n

But German outlet Bild<\/a> report that summer 2027 could be \u2018the right time\u2019 for the 23-year-old to leave if \u2018the expected performance breakthrough doesn\u2019t materialise\u2019.<\/p>\n

Bayern remain big admirers of Wirtz \u2013 despite his struggles in England \u2013 and would likely open talks for him if a transfer away from Anfield became a concrete possibility.<\/p>\n

The report carries quotes from former Liverpool players Didi Hamann and Jamie Carragher.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf things continue like this in Liverpool, they\u2019ll eventually pull the plug,\u201d Hamann recently told Sky Germany.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings haven\u2019t gotten any better so far, and that\u2019s why I can\u2019t imagine why they should get better now after 14 or 15 months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carragher, meanwhile, is quoted as saying: \u201cThere\u2019s simply nothing there. Absolutely nothing happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0 in their last game before the international break, though Carragher was not impressed by Wirtz\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was one of the poorest I\u2019ve ever seen him in a Liverpool shirt,\u201d the pundit said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been critical of the fact that he hasn\u2019t got the numbers. But normally when you watch Wirtz, he\u2019s neat and tidy, he keeps possession, there\u2019s things that you like. He gets out of a tight situation where you\u2019re normally expecting your player to lose the ball.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the reason I worry is, I don\u2019t think Wirtz is in poor form since he came to Liverpool. I actually think what we\u2019re seeing is what he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, however, was far more positive about the Germany international earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorian Wirtz, he is fantastic,\u201d the manager said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately he does not have a Spanish passport (laughs). I like the way he plays.\u201d<\/p>\n
