{"id":791308,"date":"2026-10-04T03:22:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T03:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/791308\/"},"modified":"2026-10-04T03:22:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T03:22:10","slug":"yemens-army-says-targets-houthis-in-hundreds-of-strikes-killing-700-houthis-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/791308\/","title":{"rendered":"Yemen\u2019s army says targets Houthis in hundreds of strikes, killing 700 | Houthis News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Yemeni army says it has carried out hundreds of strikes on the capital, Sanaa, and other areas held by the Iran-backed Houthis, as the battle for control of the country\u2019s most populated regions intensifies.<\/p>\n<p>Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili, the spokesman for Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government forces, said on Saturday that the military \u201cexecuted 257 precision targeting operations\u201d against Houthi sites, movements, and military capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list<\/p>\n<p>The army used \u201cwarplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, and rocket launchers\u201d, he added in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Nazili said initial estimates indicate the operations killed at least 700 Houthi rebels and destroyed \u201cstrategic and high-value military targets\u201d, including 170 combat vehicles and heavy equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The army spokesman did not mention any casualties among government forces.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes \u201chad a direct impact on the [Houthi] militia\u2019s combat capability and limited its ability to continue its attacks against civilians in their homes and villages\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s operations targeted Sanaa, Midi, Baqim, and the front lines in al-Jawf, Marib, al-Bayda, and Lahij, with the heaviest operational efforts concentrated around Taiz, al-Nazili added.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, al-Nazili said Yemen\u2019s government forces had carried out nearly 500 military operations, killing or wounding 1,540 Houthi rebels in 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Taiz focal point of clashes<\/p>\n<p>The government-held city of Taiz has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/10\/1\/after-red-sea-losses-yemens-government-forces-hold-the-line\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">become a focal point of the renewed fighting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Al Jazeera\u2019s Maha Ali, reporting from Taiz on Saturday, said the region is seeing continued escalation and intense fighting across several fronts around the city, with some of the fiercest fighting happening on its western outskirts.<\/p>\n<p>The Houthis have used an exceptionally heavy volume of fire during the assault, she noted, adding that the sound of continuing artillery fire, particularly from the Houthi side targeting western areas, could still be heard.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are appealing for evacuation as the shelling continues, Ali reported, adding that there have been civilian casualties in the fighting, including from a shell that hit a residential area in Dhubab, killing a baby who died from shrapnel injuries.<\/p>\n<p>On the Samaa front, she said, the Houthis made advances on Friday in the mountainous area, and fierce clashes are continuing there between government forces and the rebels. Several field sources told Ali that large numbers of residents have left Samaa, something, she said, that had not happened on this scale in more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_3e35eb160166422d-23\" data-path-to-node=\"14\">Following those clashes, Yemeni government forces took control of the Samaa\u00a0fort, southeast of the city of Taiz, after heavy fighting, the government-run Saba news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_3e35eb160166422d-24\" data-path-to-node=\"15\">A military source told Saba that the armed forces, backed by local popular resistance fighters from the Samaa\u00a0district, secured the fort after \u201cviolent battles\u201d, leaving dozens of Houthi fighters killed or wounded while others fled.<\/p>\n<p>Key border crossing closed<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the army\u2019s media official Ammar al-Sami\u2019i told Al Jazeera that the government had closed the al-Houban crossing in Taiz.<\/p>\n<p>The crossing had previously been closed for nine years and was later reopened to civilians in 2024 for \u201chumanitarian reasons\u201d, Sami\u2019i said, as the road is one of Yemen\u2019s most important connections between territory held by the opposing sides.
