Rupa Huq, a Labour Party MP of the United Kingdom\u00a0(UK), today (4 October) visited the July Uprising Memorial Museum here, where she toured\u00a0exhibitions documenting the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina, events during the\u00a0July uprising and incidents of repression and torture.<\/p>\n

During her visit to different galleries of the museum, Huq became emotional\u00a0while observing memorials of those who were killed during the uprising and\u00a0historical documentaries, said a press release.<\/p>\n

Describing the exhibits as highly significant and painful, she said many\u00a0people abroad are still unaware of the true picture of the misdeeds and human\u00a0rights violations committed during the previous Awami League government.<\/p>\n

She stressed the need to properly present these facts at the international\u00a0level, particularly in diplomatic circles.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Huq also took keen interest in the context of the July\u00a0uprising in Pabna, her ancestral district, and sought detailed information\u00a0about the overall situation there and those who were killed during the\u00a0movement.<\/p>\n

At the end of her visit, Huq made a formal comment and signed the museum’s\u00a0visitors’ book.<\/p>\n

“A fascinating exploration of recent history with lessons for the future. Not\u00a0for the faint hearted,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

Later, Huq held a courtesy meeting and exchanged views with July Museum\u00a0Director General (DG) Ehsan Mahmud.<\/p>\n

They discussed the museum’s existing activities and future plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Huq assured that she would extend all possible support, from her position, to\u00a0the development and overall activities of the July Museum in the future.<\/p>\n
