\n It comes as a sustained standoff continues a week on from when the loyal order march was originally supposed to go ahead<\/a> in Northern Ireland.\n<\/p>\n

\n The dispute arose after Northern Ireland\u2019s Parades Commission gave the green light for the unionist Orange Order \u2013 backed by the DUP and TUV \u2013 to march through Garvaghy Road for the first time in 30 years.\n<\/p>\n

\n The stand-off at Drumcree made headlines in the 1990s with incidents of violence for several summers and political tension necessitating a major security operation.\n<\/p>\n

\n Residents in the largely nationalist area around the road \u2013 backed by Sinn F\u00e9in, the SDLP and People Before Profit \u2013 are opposed to the parade, which was due to start last Sunday morning, and unsuccessfully fought the decision in court last weekend.\n<\/p>\n

\n In Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, scores of people gathered to show their support for the residents of Garvaghy Road.\n<\/p>\n

\n The protesters gathered at Buchanan Steps in Glasgow city centre<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

\n They could be seen holding a banner which read “Republicans in Scotland stand with the residents of Garvaghy Road!”,\n<\/p>\n

\n The crowd was then met anti-immigration protesters, with police forming a line between the two groups.\n<\/p>\n

\n They held signs including “I love being white”, “Scots must come first for social housing” and “Just stop immigration to protect our women”.\n<\/p>\n
