Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Boucheron may have been the first jeweler to set up shop in Place Vend\u00f4me<\/a>, but he had no store in New York when William Kissam Vanderbilt decided his wife Alva must have one of Boucheron\u2019s pearl and diamond tiaras. (It was later gifted to their daughter Consuelo<\/a> when she married the 9th Duke of Marlborough. The jewels fared better than the marriage.) Boucheron caught the eye of the Astors, too, and Brooklyn-born Marie Louise Hungerford, who went on to marry silver tycoon John Mackay and live happily ever after as one of his best clients.<\/p>\n

Born to drapers, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Boucheron turned diamonds into bows, tassels, and feathers in his Paris workshop. These pieces are from the company archives.<\/p>\n

Boucheron did not in fact open a store in New York until 2024<\/a>, by which point the legend had loomed for more than a century. It is a success story told in award-winning Art Deco bracelets and brooches and turn-of-the-century diamond bandeaux.
