{"id":793556,"date":"2026-10-06T09:14:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T09:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/793556\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T09:14:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T09:14:11","slug":"the-social-reckoning-first-reactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/793556\/","title":{"rendered":"The Social Reckoning First Reactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/first-reactions\/\" id=\"auto-tag_first-reactions_1\" data-tag=\"first-reactions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first reactions<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-social-reckoning\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-social-reckoning_1\" data-tag=\"the-social-reckoning\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Social Reckoning<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/aaron-sorkin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_aaron-sorkin_1\" data-tag=\"aaron-sorkin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Sorkin<\/a>\u2018s intriguing follow-up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/social-network\/\" id=\"auto-tag_social-network_1\" data-tag=\"social-network\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Social Network<\/a>, have hit social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFull critics reviews for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sony-pictures\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sony-pictures_1\" data-tag=\"sony-pictures\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sony Pictures<\/a> film drop on Oct. 7, but the embargo for brief social media reactions to press screenings on Monday has been lifted and the consensus seems to be that Social Reckoning is a timely slow-burn legal drama with a compelling performance from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jeremy-strong\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeremy-strong_1\" data-tag=\"jeremy-strong\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Strong<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA companion film rather than a direct sequel to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/david-fincher\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-fincher_1\" data-tag=\"david-fincher\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Fincher<\/a>\u2018s The Social Network (2010), which Sorkin wrote, Social Reckoning tells the story of the 2021 Facebook leak that saw tens of thousands of internal documents about the company\u2019s practices sent to the Wall Street Journal and the Securities and Exchange Commission. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPer the film\u2019s logline: \u201cFrances Haugen (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/mikey-madison\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mikey-madison_1\" data-tag=\"mikey-madison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mikey Madison<\/a>), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jeremy-allen-white\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeremy-allen-white_1\" data-tag=\"jeremy-allen-white\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Allen White<\/a>), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network\u2019s most guarded secrets.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tStrong plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the film, taking over from Jesse Eisenberg, who turned down the opportunity to play Zuckerberg once more. The stellar cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs with all his directorial projects, Sorkin wrote the script. Interestingly, Jeff Cronenweth, Fincher\u2019s longtime cinematographer who also worked on The Social Network, lensed the film and the music is by two-time Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSorkin\u2019s film comes at a time when Hollywood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/musk-artificial-social-reckoning-holmes-documentary-1236693959\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is applying much greater scrutiny to Silicon Valley\u2019s tech titans<\/a>. In recent weeks, Alex Gibney has released Musk, a searing documentary about polarizing trillionaire Elon Musk. On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/luca-guadagnino-sam-altman-artificial-first-reactions-1236723007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first reactions to Luca Guadagnino\u2019s Sam Altman biopic Artificial <\/a>started to hit social media. Also coming up is Nathan Fielder\u2019s acclaimed docudrama You Can See Everything, about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Social Reckoning hits theaters on Oct. 9.
