Residents of Esk say that such periods have been causing flooding on the street for 50 years or more.

Linda Bell, a resident, said that a metal object was protruding from the flood waters in the middle of the road following the damage. She believes it was likely the cover.

Ms Bell said that the road was flooded and not passable during the incident.

Although it was narrowly avoided on this occasion, residents of Esk Avenue have previously seen flooding within their properties during periods of heavy rainfall.

Flooding on a key junction in the town.
