\n Millie Broadrib, 22, from Brighton, was diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma in January 2026 after collapsing on the street during a severe migraine.\n<\/p>\n
\n She had spent four years suffering unexplained symptoms, including falling down the stairs at home 10 times.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Broadrib said: “I was completely shocked when I was told I had brain tumour, it just didn\u2019t feel real. Life for me is very different now.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I was a typical 21-year-old going out with my friends at the weekend, but I don\u2019t do any of that now.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I don’t go out alone because I’m scared I might collapse again on the street.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Despite undergoing surgery, she was forced to give up her psychology course at Brighton College and turn down two university offers to study forensic psychology due to daily headaches and extreme fatigue.\n<\/p>\n
\n The condition has also left her reliant on a wheelchair.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Broadrib said: “When I got the offers from the University of Portsmouth and University of Sussex to study forensic psychology, I felt very excited for the future.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Having to give them up on my dream is really upsetting, especially when I\u2019m seeing my classmates start uni.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I\u2019m happy for them but also really upset because I should be starting with them.”\n<\/p>\n
\n She is now supporting Brain Tumour Research\u2019s campaign for the government to commit at least \u00a345 million a year to brain tumour research.\n<\/p>\n
\n Currently, just one per cent of the national cancer research budget was allocated to brain tumours between 2002 and 2021.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Broadrib said: “There should be a lot more funding for brain tumours.\n<\/p>\n
\n “They kill so many young people but receive so little money from the government. More needs to be known about this devastating disease.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Brain Tumour Research funds dedicated Centres of Excellence in the UK and is calling for long-term investment to improve survival rates and treatment options.\n<\/p>\n
\n Dr Karen Noble, director of research and policy at Brain Tumour Research, said: “Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Millie\u2019s story highlights why we urgently need the government to support an increase in the national investment in research into brain tumours to at least \u00a345 million a year.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We need sustained investment if we are to develop kinder, more effective treatments and give brain tumour patients the best possible chance.”\n<\/p>\n
\n After collapsing in January, Ms Broadrib called her sisters, Louise and Demi, who took her to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.\n<\/p>\n
\n An MRI scan revealed a brain tumour with an attached cyst.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Broadrib said: “The doctors said they would have been growing on my brain between two to four years.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Looking back, it all made sense as this is exactly the same kind of timeline that I had started falling over.”\n<\/p>\n
\n She had a drain inserted to remove fluid from the cyst.\n<\/p>\n
\n Surgeons decided against removing the tumour due to its sensitive location near the pituitary gland and optic nerve.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Broadrib now has MRI scans every three months.\n<\/p>\n
\n In June, she required another drainage procedure after the tumour and cyst showed signs of growth.\n<\/p>\n
\n She said: “It’s very touch and go. I feel even now there’s no kind of set plan or set treatment plan.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It’s very much a case of watch and wait so if my tumour grows or if my symptoms get worse, they then look at other options.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The doctors said further surgery and radiotherapy would be involved at some point in the future.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Despite her health struggles, Ms Broadrib remains determined to return to education.\n<\/p>\n
\n She said: “I\u2019m even more determined to get to university now.\n<\/p>\n
