\n The proposal, which RTE says<\/a> is set to be agreed on, will see Irish\u00a0pensioners\u00a0receive the equivalent of \u00a313,654.98 a year.\n<\/p>\n

\n This is \u00a31107\u00a0more than is currently the case in the United Kingdom, where the full new state pension is \u00a312,547.60. This increase will also apply to those receiving disability and jobseekers allowances.\n<\/p>\n

\n Additionally, a cost-of-disability payment of more than \u20ac400 annually has been largely agreed, and the Living Alone allowance is also expected to increase.\n<\/p>\n

\n Commenting, Alex Kerr MSP said the pension boost is a “wake-up call” for older people across the UK, and said this is what Scotland is missing out on under Westminster<\/a> rule.\n<\/p>\n

\n He said: “This is what is possible when your government sets out a bold policy agenda which raises public revenues – the people benefit.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n “This kind of big picture thinking is virtually unimaginable in the UK, and will stick in the craw of Scots\u00a0pensioners\u00a0just a week after they found out about a reduction to their own\u00a0pension.”\n<\/p>\n

\n Pensions have been an issue of great public interest over the last few weeks, following Andy Burnham’s announcement of changes to the triple lock,<\/a> used to fund social care in England and scrutiny over what that will mean for older Scots.\n<\/p>\n

\n During FMQs<\/a> on Tuesday, John Swinney<\/a> doubled down on his claims that Scottish pensioners will be \u00a32000 worse off after changes.\n<\/p>\n

\n Kerr continued: “It is precisely because of decisions made possible by Ireland’s independence that they have produced this budget surplus, and Scotland could do the same.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Not least by harnessing the power of our immense energy resources to lower bills for people and businesses, driving business<\/a> towards Scotland.\n<\/p>\n
