Thom Yorke<\/a> has revealed that Radiohead<\/a>\u2019s 2025 reunion tour led to a \u201cmassive\u201d crash in his self-confidence that took months to recover from.<\/p>\n

The band announced their long-awaited live return in September last year<\/a>, marking their first shows together in over seven years. They went on to play 20 arena dates across Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin that November and December.<\/p>\n

Now, in a new conversation with Harry Styles<\/a> for Rolling Stone<\/a>, Yorke has spoken about the more difficult aftermath of the comeback.<\/p>\n

The subject arose as Styles asked him about becoming more willing to embrace and celebrate his past work, both through the Radiohead tour and by accepting the Academy Fellowship at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re answering this better than I can do,\u201d Yorke replied. \u201cYou\u2019re right, that I\u2019m in a slightly better place nowadays, but I\u2019d be lying if I didn\u2019t say that something like getting an Ivor Novello fellowship was not deeply confusing for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI admire a lot of the people that they\u2019ve given those awards to. Some of these people are my heroes. But I have a very, very strange relationship to\u2026 God, this is really hard to explain. I have a very strange relationship to that element of my work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Yorke said he finds looking forward creatively much easier to process.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find it hard to believe in it,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe moving-forward thing, that\u2019s what I believe in. That\u2019s easy to believe in, because it\u2019s new. I don\u2019t have to explain it, so I\u2019m happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then explained how that uneasy relationship with his past caught up with him after the Radiohead dates ended.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the [2025 reunion] Radiohead tour \u2013 even though in the middle of it, it was really fun \u2013 my response to it afterwards was to crash, like massively crash, in terms of self-confidence,\u201d Yorke said. \u201cIt took me months. It took me starting on my own record again two months later to go, \u2018Oh, OK. I\u2019m good now. I\u2019m fine.\u2019 I just have a really odd relationship with it. And I\u2019ve just grown used to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yorke also linked that feeling to the Ivors, where Styles had presented him with the Fellowship and paid tribute to Radiohead as his \u201cfavourite band\u201d<\/a> and made the memorable admission: \u201cI lost my virginity to \u2018Talk Show Host\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ivors, to be honest, your speech was great, because it was really honest and personal, and I could relate to it,\u201d Yorke told him. \u201cWhereas when it feels like a business, and you\u2019re part of a business, and the cameras are running\u2026 I don\u2019t know, man. I got this legacy feeling about all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the difficult aftermath, Yorke also recalled just how emotional Radiohead\u2019s return itself had been. Discussing their opening night in Madrid, when the band walked through the crowd to reach the stage, he said: \u201cAll of us, the whole band, were like, \u2018OK, keep it together. Keep it together.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause I wanted to burst into tears, and we hadn\u2019t even played a note. I hadn\u2019t been exposed to whatever that was for so long, and to walk through the middle of it\u2026 I mean, all of us, we were like, \u2018Holy shit. Holy shit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

That echoes comments Yorke made at the Ivors earlier this year<\/a>, when he described the comeback tour as \u201coverwhelming\u201d but said: \u201cI\u2019m really, really glad we did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revealed there that he was working with producer Sam Petts-Davies on a new solo album, which he described as \u201cpretty fucking different\u201d for him.<\/p>\n

Radiohead have not returned to the studio together, however. Elsewhere in his new conversation with Styles, Yorke said: \u201cWe haven\u2019t worked. We haven\u2019t been in the studio together for a long time, so I don\u2019t know how it would actually feel now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band will nevertheless continue their live reunion in 2027, having announced 21 shows across Australia and Japan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a glowing, five-star review<\/a> of one of Radiohead\u2019s gigs in London last November, NME wrote: \u201cWhat a show: a visceral energy, a tasteful spectacle, all delivered with a generosity of spirit, Yorke in full rockstar mode as the band trade places to tend to each corner of the venue.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a band once embarrassed by the notion of \u2018arena rock\u2019, nobody does it better.
