{"id":796508,"date":"2026-10-09T01:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T01:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/796508\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T01:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T01:04:13","slug":"gourock-artist-rediscovers-creative-roots-through-painting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/796508\/","title":{"rendered":"Gourock artist rediscovers creative roots through painting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The art school graduate is holding an pop-up exhibition at Medinelli\u2019s in Gourock until October 11 from 11am until 6pm each day.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Her art is inspired by the landscapes and light of the Clyde coast, and her work reflects her deep connection to the area, in particular the water.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Heather says the exhibition has given her a chance to showcase her passion after years working in other fields.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added:\u00a0&#8220;I was brought up in Gourock, went to Gourock High School, and then I went to Glasgow School of Art.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;[Many of my paintings] are all really inspired by the Clyde, one looks across the Holy Loch and many are up and down the coast.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I love painting boats and nautical themes.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\" alt=\"Heather Thomson from Gourock is running an exhibition in Medinelli\u2019s.\"\/>Heather Thomson&#8217;s Gourock exhibition. (Image: George Munro)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said she started to truly appreciate Gourock&#8217;s views of the Clyde on her return to the coast after studying and working away from home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After art school Heather worked as a designer for around 15 years but her work mostly involved producing technical drawings.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A return to education and another degree followed, taking her on &#8216;a bit of a tangent&#8217; into property management where she ended up spending her days on spreadsheets, budgets and project management.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said she felt something was missing during this period and she was pulled back to the canvas.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\" alt=\"Heather Thomson from Gourock is running an exhibition in Medinelli\u2019s.\"\/>Heather Thomson&#8217;s Gourock exhibition.
