\n\tItalian public broadcaster RAI<\/a> has acquired a slate of international, female-led drama series from Beta Film<\/a> ahead of Mipcom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe package comprises \u201cBarton Vet,\u201d in which a veterinarian and her family-run team save animals in the countryside; the French thriller \u201cA Guilty Affair,\u201d about a high school principal desperately searching for her missing daughter; and the hot-selling German period drama \u201cMozart Mozart<\/a>,\u201d which centers on the musical genius\u2019 overlooked \u2013 and equally gifted \u2013 sister.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe deals see the biggest government-backed broadcaster in Italy buying two shows which are backed in their finance by two of the other largest public broadcast networks in Europe. France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions<\/a> and Germany\u2019s ARD<\/a>, which outscales the BBC. In this, RAI\u2019s purchases are a reminder of how, despite ever tighter budgets, such public broadcastres still drive a lion\u2019s share or orders and buys in Europe. <\/p>\n

\n\tA U.S.-Canadian procedural drama, the 12-episode \u201cBarton Vet\u201d stars Georgina Reilly (\u201cQuantum Leap,\u201d \u201cCity on a Hill\u201d) as Dr. Kate Barton, who takes over the family\u2019s rural veterinary clinic following the death of her father. Saving the lives of animals while juggling love and hardship, Kate must learn to heal herself along the way. Katia Edith Wood (\u201cThe Borderline\u201d), Nadeem Umar-Khitab (\u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tail\u201d) and Sonja Smits also star.<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by Felipe Rodriguez (\u201cVirgin River,\u201d \u201cThe Good Doctor\u201d), the series is produced by Shaftesbury in association with BYUtv and Beta Film, which is also selling it internationally.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe four-part French drama \u201cA Guilty Affair\u201d follows Morgane, a high school principal desperately searching for her daughter, who has disappeared. Was the girl murdered by the new physical education teacher with whom she\u2019s been having an affair?<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by Sandra Perrin (\u201cHigh Season\u201d), the show stars Helene De Fougerolles (\u201cBalthazar\u201d), Florent Peyre (\u201cCommandant Saint-Barth\u201d) and Vittoria Di Savoia (\u201cYou+Me \u2013 Against the World\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA Guilty Affair\u201d is produced by France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions, Episode Productions, Be-Films and RTBF. Beta Film is handling international sales.<\/p>\n

\n\tDescribed as \u201ca fresh and bold reimagining of the Mozart legacy,\u201d the opulent, six-episode period drama \u201cMozart Mozart\u201d is a tale of ambition set in 1780\u2019s Vienna and follows Maria Anna Mozart, the talented but overlooked sister of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. When her brother\u2019s behavior threatens the family\u2019s future, Maria Anna secretly takes his place and performs under his name to the same stunning effect. <\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by Clara Zo\u00eb My-Linh von Arnim (\u201cMarzahn, Mon Amour\u201d) with a modern pop-sensibility, the series stars Havana Joy Josephine Braun (\u201cLove Sucks\u201d) and Eren M. G\u00fcvercin, who toplines Fatih Akin\u2019s latest film, \u201cGhost Song<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe German series is produced by Story House Pictures<\/a>, a driving force behind Beta mega-hit \u201cSisi,\u201d and in co-production with ARD (WDR\/SWR\/ARD Degeto Film), ORF and Dreaming Sheep Company. Beta Film and Bavaria Media are handling world sales.<\/p>\n
