“My name is Legion, for we are many.” Universal Pictures unveiled the first official trailer for the chilling new Exorcist supernatural horror movie titled The Exorcist: Martyrs, from filmmaker Mike Flanagan. After all of his horror success, they let Flanagan create his own story – he’s both writer & director. It is the seventh film in The Exorcist franchise, this time produced by Jason Blum at Blumhouse. A rookie detective eager to establish herself confronts a horrifying darkness that challenges her deepest convictions & tests what she thought she knew about right & wrong. 13 years after taking down a notorious satanic serial killer, she investigates a new series of murders connected to her past while her 12-year-old son becomes the target of a terrifying demonic force. There’s not much that connects this to the first movie, more of another reboot of the possession story. The crazy talented cast of The Exorcist: Martyrs features Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jacobi Jupe (from Hamnet), Sasha Calle, Hamish Linklater, John Gallagher Jr., Carl Lumbly, Benjamin Pajak, Carla Gugino, with John Leguizamo and Laurence Fishburne. Even though Flanagan is trying something new, this looks extra freaky anyway! With plenty of spooky, scary happenings and unsettling visuals. There’s a very eerie vibe in this trailer. What do you think?

“Darkness must be hunted.” Thirteen years ago, NYC detective Julie Miller (Scarlett Johansson) ended the terror reign of satanic serial killer Father Sunday. The case made her a hero, and she has thrown herself into her work ever since. A new killer scrawls her name in an altar boy’s blood on the walls of a church crypt, dragging her back into the darkness she believed she had buried with him. Aided by former prison chaplain Father William (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who heard Father Sunday’s final confession, and sharp rookie detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle), Detective Miller will discover a filament linking a lineage of serial killers, from H.H. Holmes to the Zodiac, that could corrupt everything, and everyone, she loves with an evil that goes well beyond the mortal. The Exorcist: Martyrs is written and directed by acclaimed genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan, director of “The Haunting of Hill House”, “Midnight Mass“, “The Midnight Club“, “The Fall of the House of Usher“, “Carrie” series and the films Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck. Based on characters created by writer William Peter Blatty in the original 1971 novel and film The Exorcist. Produced by Jason Blum, David Robinson, Mike Flanagan. Made by Blumhouse – Atomic Monster & Morgan Creek Entertainment. Universal debuts Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs horror movie in theaters everywhere starting March 12th, 2027 next year.
