{"id":798001,"date":"2026-10-10T10:52:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T10:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798001\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T10:52:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T10:52:09","slug":"terminal-prostate-cancer-has-taught-me-one-lesson-i-want-to-pass-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798001\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Terminal prostate cancer has taught me one lesson I want to pass on&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Because prostate cancer runs in his family, Rex regularly monitored his PSA levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After a raised test result, further investigations confirmed he had incurable stage four prostate cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rex underwent chemotherapy but said the treatment took a significant physical toll and he now lives with the side effects of hormone treatment, including intense fatigue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I stopped doing a job I love as a GP practice manager,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;By the time I went through chemotherapy, I couldn&#8217;t do the job that was needed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Leaving work was one of the biggest practical changes brought about by his diagnosis, although he says his priorities remain firmly focused on his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Sarah and I have always had a strong focus on our boys. We structured our lives to give them the best upbringing we could.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But while cancer changed his perspective and future plans, he says one of the most important discoveries of his life came years before.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Because prostate cancer runs in his family, Rex regularly monitored his PSA levels.
